Funeral services will be held on Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Edward J. Arroyo officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery. Mrs. Hooker was born in Randolph County on October 9, 1936 to Wayne and Alene Jarrell Henry. She was retired from Energizer after 40 years of service and was a member of Central Carolina Community Church (C-4). In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her daughter Kimberly "Kim" Carol Hooker and her sister Martha Henry Moody. She is survived by her husband, Bobby E. Hooker; daughter, Beth Hooker of Asheboro; grandchildren, Brittany Salers and Mitch Salers both of Greensboro, Landon Hooker of Asheboro; and sister, Sandra Henry Combs of Fayetteville. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 24, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Memorials may be made to Christian's United Outreach Center (CUOC), PO Box 784, Asheboro, NC 27204 or Central Carolina Community Church (C-4), P.O. Box 1536, Asheboro, NC 27204.

20121016 Joan Is in Hospital

Thought you could let everyone know that Joan is in ICU at Randolph
Hospital. She went in yesterday for her B12 shot and her blood count was
down to 6. I think about 12 is normal. They have given her 5 units of
blood. Also she has fluid in her lung and they are going to draw that out.
Her heart is also beating irregular. I think this is something new.
Everyone please pray for her and I will let you know when I find out
anything new. (from Gwen)

Joan - update 2/16/2011

The latest on Joan from Gwen. Moses Cone is at 1200 N. Elm St., Greensboro, NC 27401. I plan to send a card today.

Just to let everyone know the latest about Joan. They got the lab report back today and she does have cancer in the lymph nodes. It's not in the center of her chest but it is around the lung. The Doctor is going to try to let her come home this weekend but I really have my doubts. We can hope. She will be starting chemo in about three weeks and that will be done in Asheboro.

 

Her spirits are still good and I know she would love to hear from everyone. She is at Moses Cone in Greensboro in room 315. She can have visitors anytime except from 2:00-4:00.

Will keep you informed how things go.

Lloyd, Wanted to give you the latest about Joan. She had her surgery this morning. I talked to the surgeon when it was over and he said everything went great. He took out the top half of her right lung. They won't know about the lympth nodes until the report comes back but he said everything looked good.

Joan actually ate a few bites this afternoon, then told everyone to go home, she was tired  I can't imagine why.

I know her good report was the result of all the prayers, so don't stop until all this is over.

Good news from Gwen about Joan.

Lloyd, Just an update on Joan. She say the surgeon yesterday and the cancer had not spread to any other places, which is wonderful. He is going to take out half of her right lung. The surgery is scheduled for next Friday. I think that is the 11th. Everyone please keep her in your prayers.

Lloyd, I have some bad news about Joan that I think we should share with everyone.They have found a large growing mass in her right lung. She went to the surgeon yesterday and he told her it was cancer. She goes to Wesley Long on Monday to have a brain scan and body scan to see if it has spread there. They are also going to do some kind of breathing test to see how she breathes. He told her it was not an impossible situation but very difficult. He said there would be radiation and chemo. We don't know about surgery yet. We all know that there are miracles in prayer and we need to be praying alot for Joan. I will keep you updated on how things go.
