Edwina Steelman (Gayle) Oxendine
GREENSBORO — Edwina (Gayle) Steelman Oxendine, 74, of Heartland Living and Rehabilitation, Greensboro, passed away Monday, March 5, 2012.Gayle was born June 9, 1937 in High Point, the daughter of Irene Bryant Steelman Cranford and Archie L. Steelman. She graduated from Asheboro High School in 1955, and attended East Carolina Teachers College (now East Carolina University) for two years. She was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company with 37 and a half years of service. Gayle enjoyed photography, especially taking pictures of children and animals, and sewing and crafts.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Robert Oxendine.
Gale is survived by her cousin Julia Gregson, of Danville VA; Julia's children Katherine Smith, also of Danville, and Jim Gregson of Wilmington NC; an aunt, Vivian Bryant of Columbus NC; sisters-in-law Sadie Clark of Wilmington and Peggy (and Gene) Clark of Orange Park FL, and their daughters, Genia and Kristy; Rex and Dorothy Clark of Wilmington; Betty Roderick and Lee, Tracy and Debbie; Donald Clark and Thomas Clark all of Wilmington and Annette Hunt of Fairmont. She also leaves behind many friends, co-workers, neighbors and her "family" at Heartland.
Graveside rites will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, March 9 at Guilford Memorial Park, 6000 High Point Rd., Greensboro.
Hanes Lineberry Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
