We were out of town so were not able to forward BARBARA CALLOWAY PRUGH'S  obituary so I am including the information here.

Barbara passed away on Sunday, March 25 in Brevard. A memorial service was held at Brevard Davidson River Presbyterian Church on March 29.

Those interested in the progress of the Lee J. Stone Scholarship will be pleased to know that the amount has now passed $46,000.

Obituary of Betty Albright 9/3/1937 - 3/9/2018

Betty Stout Albright, age 80, of Asheboro passed away on Friday, March 9, 2018 at Randolph Hospice House.
 Mrs. Albright was born in Snow Camp, NC on September 3, 1937 to Walter Coy and Virginia Stout, who preceded her in death.  Betty was retired from Kayser-Roth and was a member of Back Creek Friends Meeting.  Betty loved her family, her church, and serving at the church kitchen.
She is survived by her husband, Farris Albright; son, Dale Millikan of Lexington; and brother, Walter Coy Stout, Jr. of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 12, 2018 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.  Funeral services will follow on Monday at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Michael Fulp, Jr. and Chaplin Bernie Raymond officiating.  Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park.

Lee J. Stone Scholarship Raises Over $46,000 for Student-Athletes

ASHEBORO –  The Lee J. Stone Scholarship Committee would like to express great gratitude to the contributors of the Lee J. Stone Scholarship. In October, the committee sent letters to Asheboro High School alumni from the Stone era. The initial goal was to raise $15,000 to create an endowed scholarship for student-athletes at Asheboro High School. As of Friday, February 23, the total amount raised was $46,082.

“I’m incredibly humbled by the contributions made to the Lee J. Stone Scholarship,” said Frances Stone Sechler, Stone’s daughter. “My dad was unbelievably lucky. He was able to live in a town he loved where he was able to teach and mentor Asheboro High School students, all of whom he loved. His real passion, of course, was coaching ‘his boys’ and watching them grow into successful young men. I believe this wonderful scholarship is Asheboro loving him back,” she added.

Stone is the only coach in Asheboro High School history to be inducted into the North Carolina Sports Hall of Fame as well as the North Carolina High School Sports Hall of Fame. Additionally, he was inducted into the Asheboro High School Athletics Hall of Fame in its inaugural year Stone coached at AHS from 1947 to 1965, winning three state championships. In his 29 years of coaching, he never had a losing season.

The scholarship will be managed by the Asheboro City Schools Education Foundation, which was established in 1991 by Superintendent Bob W. Gordon. Once endowed, the scholarship will be available to both male and female students who have participated in any of the high school’s NCHSAA-sanctioned sports.
Rather than an application process, students will have to be nominated by school staff, faculty, and coaches. In addition to participating in a sport, nominated students will also have to meet four additional criteria:
* Academics: Places in the top 30 percent of class.
* Sportsmanship: Student athlete demonstrates throughout the entire athletic season ethical, appropriate, polite, and fair behavior while participating in a game or athletic event, shows respect for the rules of the game and the other players, is a gracious loser or winner, and promotes fellowship.
* Civic activities: Participates in community service projects or volunteer clubs during their high school career.
* College acceptance: Student must be accepted to a two or four-year college or university.

Stone Scholarship Committee of the ACS Education Foundation include Mark Leggett, class of 1959; Marylin Smith Fowler, class of 1962; Neal Hughes, class of 1964; Don Redding, class of 1955; David Jarrell, class of 1951; Wanda Williams Tatum, class of 1956; Wanda McIntyre McDaniels, class of 1960; and Darrell Moody, class of 1966.
