01/15/08 Sagebrush

2008.01.15 Tuesday Quarterly Meeting at the SageBrush in Asheboro: (Click for Pictures http://donredding.smugmug.com/gallery/4178356
) We had about 35 people present and I forgot to take notes. Off the top of my head: I remember that Tommy Warren had passed away earlier this week and his funeral was this day in Georgia. A few special moments were shared about memories of Tommy: his big smile, his haircut, his very shiny shoes, and just a great guy. Edna Faye Pugh Cobb is having double knee surgery 01/16/08 (and the report is that she is doing well, lot of pain, is sedated, and will be in the hospital there for a couple of weeks). Nolan Galloway lost his son around the end of the year. Gary Hicks was with us and in good spirits coming off surgery 10 days ago. (See Lloyd's email for more details on addresses, etc.) Betty Stout Albright was to have surgery soon. Can someone remind me if we heard from Edwina. Lloyd and Ann Hamlet were thanked for handling our email connection. They are asking that we help in getting correct addresses for everyone. A few emails have been returned, as well as some of the postcards sent to those without email. We decided to meet on Tuesdays with next meeting back at Sagebrush in Asheboro on April 22nd. Eddie Wilkes led the business part of the meeting and he is good at keeping it brief. Charlotte led us in prayer as we remembered our classmates. Please let me know what I forgot to include here. dsr

08/22/07 Sagebrush

2007.08.22 Calling all members of the AHS Class of '55!!! (8/22/07 email from Lloyd and Diana)

GOOD NEWS!!!! After an extended layoff, we will resume our luncheons on Thursday, September 20. We will meet at the Sagebrush Restaurant located in the mall complex on East Dixie Drive in Asheboro. Plan to be there by 11:30. Sagebrush needs to know by September 15 how many to plan for. Call Nancy Hall or email her if you plan to attend. You may also call or email Lloyd Hamlet.

MORE GOOD NEWS!!!! You should have already received the information on the DVD of the 50th reunion that Charlotte has ready. If not, contact her.

EVEN MORE GOOD NEWS!!!! We all know how special our class is. All of you should know that Lloyd, Eddie, and Don Redding have stepped up to the plate and have taken charge of arrangements (securing locations, planning, and getting out information). They deserve our thanks for all their hard work. They have truly been the driving force for the resumption of our luncheons.

NOW YOU MAKE SOME MORE GOOD NEWS!!!! If you possibly can, come on the 20th. As usual, there will be the camaraderie that is so special with our class. You don't want to miss out on that. If you know of someone who has not been a regular, give him/her a call and urge them to attend. Let them know what they will be missing. Be sure to mark your own calendar and come with news and pictures. Most of all, however, bring your love for the best class to ever graduate from AHS.
Blue Comet Love....Diana

6/27/07 Ole Deli (last meeting here before moving to Sagebrush)

2007.06.27 Ole Deli

June 27, 2007 Wednesday
Ole Deli Asheboro Planning Session - Great to see 37 eager AHS '55 ers and sounded like we made some real steps forward to making sure we stay in touch. Eddie ran a smooth meeting, and we thanked Janet, Bette Lee , Diana, Eddie, Nancy York, and others for all their help in keeping us organized over the years. We also thanked the Brookshires for the fun times over several years at their lake home. (Any one else have a lake house or big yard/house for the future?)
We agreed to a 10 member calling committee and filled it promptly, after thanking Diana and Bette Lee and Eddie for making so many calls and getting a big turnout. this time.
We agreed we want to keep quarterly meetings on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Date in month to be determined
The next meeting will be at the Sagebrush restaurant in Asheboro. Its on Dixie Dr. in front of the mall.
We want to participate in the Homecoming this year similar to last year.
Nancy Hall reported our treasury is in good shape, yeh!
Our next meeting probably in September will be at the Stagecoach (I think that is name)

Lloyd Hamlet volunteered (ANN) to send out cards and emails on coming events. Don Redding agreed to keep up the addresses on line and provide LLoyd with address info. Also Don asked everyone to check the site at www.donredding.com/ahs.htm for address info, pictures, and other info (maybe news such as this) and let him know corrections needed. He cannot tell the name of people checking, but he can tell how many check so we hope to see more use in the future as a way of confirming it is worth the effort to do it this way; otherwise we need a volunteer to go back to the old way of keeping and printing and mailing lists periodically. You need the User name and password ( ask don, though he reminded all at the meeting, and think presidential, all small letters) for more confidential into on the web pages.

At the meeting we discussed the need for a "Health and Happiness" person to share with us life's major moments as Janet has done for so many years. The feeling was that someone living in Asheboro should do this, Please think about this and volunteer if you are able. I suggest you discuss this opportunity with Eddie.

(If I missed something in the meeting, let me know to correct.)

If you are interested, please check the links on this page so you are familiar with what we have. If you want to help with this site let me know. I am using Microsoft Access for the address list and birthday lists. I use a basic html editor for the web pages (specifically WebEditor 6). Our pictures are on my smugmug site at http://donredding.smugmug.com/School/42865 (Click here) Smugmug is the best site I have found for pictures. It give you a chance to view pictures in a lot of ways so mess around with various "styles." For videos, I have found a new site called PhotoBucket which to me is better than YouTube so check out at http://s191.photobucket.com/albums/z128/donredding/School/AHS%201955/ (Click here) Unfortunately viewing Smugmug and Photbucket without cable makes it too much of a chore, so be warned. With cable it is reasonably fast. Notice you can make pictures much larger or much smaller on Smugmug by changing to "original" or ""small" etc.. I have just started experimenting with PhotoBucket so I have much to learn there. 9:54
